Chores don’t stop for this 3-day weekend

By DeEtta Bohling, Communications Specialist

The three day weekend is quickly approaching! While I hope that you will celebrate America’s freedoms, our veterans and current troops this Independence Day, farmers will spend a great deal of this holiday – as they do every holiday, caring for their animals and working in the fields. Each family has their own tradition to celebrate the Fourth of July whether it’s a town celebration and a parade, camping with friends and family or spending time at the lake. Farm families will be taking a little extra time to plan out their weekend to be sure the chores are completed before they celebrate.

Enjoy your July 4th and be safe this holiday weekend! A huge thanks goes out to those who have fought and are fighting for our freedoms so that this Sunday, July 4, I have the opportunity to travel to Iowa, attend church with my family and watch my little brother, Hank, in the town parade. If he’s lucky, I might even help him with his chicken chores!

Growing up on a farm and having livestock of my own, this couldn’t be more true. The livestock always came first, EVEN on holidays! Thanks for writing this great article, DeEtta. Farmers are truely amazing people! I think the quote “we bust ours to feed yours” applies here. Cheers to all those who feed mine! Thanks for you dedication and hard work!
